Notation Conventions

Namashkar,

Following are the notation conventions and their meanings in all the subsequent articles.

Swaras:

sa - Shadj
re - Rishabh
ga - Gandhar
ma - Madhyam
pa - Pancham
dha - Dhaivat
ni - Nishad

Prakriti Swaras:

sa, pa - Shadj and Pancham are known as Prakriti Swaras.

Shuddh madhyam and teevra madhyam:

ma - Shuddh madhyam
Ma - Teevra madhyam

Other shuddh swaras:

re, ga, dha, ni - Shuddh rishabh, Shuddh gandhar, Shuddh dhaivat and Shuddh nishad

Komal swaras:

re, ga, dha, ni - Komal rishabh, Komal gandhar, Komal dhaivat, Komal nishad

Mandra Saptak:

Komal swaras: re, ga, dha, ni
Shuddh swaras: re, ga, dha, ni
Prakriti swaras: sa, pa
Shuddh madhyam: ma
Teevra madhyam: Ma

Tara Saptak: Swaras are notated in italicized form.

Komal swaras: re, ga, dha, ni
Shuddh swaras: re, ga, dha, ni
Prakriti swaras: sa, pa
Shuddh madhyam: ma
Teevra madhyam: Ma
